Request For Startups: DeSci
At Boost VC, we invest in companies that make Sci-Fi a reality, and are constantly looking for the next innovators.
We believe science is the next space for disruption. In the same way that finance was disrupted by decentralized systems i.e. crypto, scientific systems and processes can also benefit from these structural changes. Decentralized science (DeSci) promises to disrupt scientific institutions, and can do this by bringing:
Transparency across the entire scientific community, from funding structures to research methods
Crowdsourcing of funds, talent, and data for research
Scientific communities connected by a specific interest and mission, bound by smart contracts
Better aligned incentives in peer review and publishing
The ability to fractionalize research, innovation, and its associated IP
Marketplaces for knowledge, instead of major scientific journals having a monopoly on publishing
Tools for tracking impact, reputation, and quality of work
The ability to fund very promising frontier ideas which can be overlooked by traditional funding agencies
We’ve already seen some great companies and DAOs pop up that are taking advantage of these benefits, including Molecule, VitaDAO, DeSci Labs, PsyDAO, etc, and we look forward to seeing them play out.
But DeSci is just getting started. We are still learning all the potential ways it can greatly benefit scientific output. At Boost VC, we look forward to seeing the future of DeSci, and want to take part in shaping that future. Thus, we are writing this because we are looking for startups working in the DeSci space.
