Aerospace Teams are Built Agility First.

One market that is naturally undervalued is Space. These are some of the most talented people in the world working in that industry. SpaceX has created a whole new brand for aerospace. It represents the legacy of NASA with the dynamism of Silicon Valley. This is being replicated across teams across the market.

Our core thesis in aerospace/Space Tech is based primarily around the unraveling of the prime government contractors and the partnership with startup companies attempting scientific breakthroughs at scale.

I’ve been working pretty closely with Launcher, a startup founded by a good friend Max Haot 5-6 years ago. Boost VC was lucky enough to be the first investor, and have continued to support through the years.

Through the lens of Launcher I have absorbed one key insight - the most important team skill set is agility.

Where some industries can build for expertise, most of the builders at Launcher/SpaceX/Anduril build across multiple teams. This allows for a diverse group of incredibly talented people who could build anything - but happen to be building the next generation of aerospace.

If you meet people who have worked at SpaceX long enough, they say “I worked on Dragon, Grasshopper, and the Boring experiment.” This interdisciplinary skill set divides teams not into - Hardware vs. Software” but into “What problem do we have to solve today.” Some individuals are obviously more talented in specific tasks, but its interesting to see an entire market built on agility rather specialty.
